About Teletherapy

It is online therapy provided over a secure video connection. You work with a highly qualified therapist and many people comment that it is remarkably like an in-person session, for many. If you have done a video call on your smart phone, a zoom meeting, FaceTime or Skype, this format is like what you will experience with teletherapy.

Occupational, Speech and Physical therapy can all be using this delivery method. The therapy is provided by a license and certified therapist. These experts can do comprehensive evaluations, develop personalized treatment plans, incorporate hands-on activities, and even interactive games. Parents or caretakers join the t therapy, as needed, to provide cueing and assistance with hands on techniques.

The same privacy laws that govern face-to-face sessions apply to teletherapy sessions. Therapists are in a private/secure location. Sessions are not recorded or shared. On the patient end, to ensure confidentiality, we ask that the sessions be conducted in a private area, also. The software is fully encrypted, and HIPAA approved.

You will need a computer, tablet, or smartphone, that has a microphone and camera, AND an internet connection.

Research does support that it is as effective as face-to-face therapy for a wide range of circumstances. (Wagner, Horn, Maercker (2013); Acierno (2014); Mitchel et al. (2008)

The Amerrican Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has recognized it as an effective method. Their statement on this is found at this site.

 Alleviates Stress
Traveling to a location can be stressful. Waiting for a therapy session can cause stressful.
Figuring out what to do with siblings during a therapy session adds even more stress.
Teletherapy offers you the opportunity to stay at home while engaging in a therapy session that
is like a traditional face-to-face therapy session.
 Convenience
Your child can receive therapy in the comfort of your own home. This can reduce anxiety as the
surroundings are familiar and the wait times eliminated. You don’t have to battle traffic or find
a parking spot. Simply turn on your computer, login, and your therapist will join you.
 Technology – Kids love it

Screen time is an everyday occurrence for most children. Online videos, online games, talking
on the phone – all familiar to them and even motivating. Therapy delivered through technology,
to children, is often less intimidating and inviting.
 Creates a safer environment
Keeping our clients, therapist and staff safe is extremely important. Teletherapy provides social
distancing. Gone is the time spent in a waiting room with other people. Gone is the concern
over social distancing appropriately to keep everyone safe. It all happens in the comfort of your
own home.

With all treatments there are no guarantees that it will work. If it doesn’t work or isn’t comfortable for
your child, you can always switch to face-to-face therapy.
