about Physical Therapy

In general, physical therapists work with children in body function – strength/endurance; movement, and motor development. Many childhood disorders and diseases lead to movement dysfunction. Injuries can also and physical therapy has proven to help children regain independence. All physical therapists, for adults or children, have specific training. Our therapists have all the credentials, education, etc. required but they bring to each of their sessions a passion for helping kids.

For children, often they are unsure of why they are in therapy? Our therapists cater to your child’s needs. They work with your child in a way that is play-based rather than strictly clinical in nature. Motivational factors, related specifically to your child, are considered when designing the treatment plan. They literally introduce “fun” to the therapy.

The Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy supports the use of physical therapy for the following:

  • Developmental activities
  • Movement and mobility
  • Strengthening
  • Motor learning
  • Balance and coordination
  • Recreation, play, and leisure
  • Daily care activities and routines
  • Equipment design, fabrication, and fitting
  • Tone management
  • Assistive technology
  • Posture, positioning, and lifting
  • Orthotics and prosthetics
  • Burn and wound care
  • Cardiopulmonary endurance
  • Pain management

Our therapists also work with children to strengthen, increase mobility and regain full movement after an injury.

Our physical therapists work with you and your child to assess/diagnose challenges, develop a treatment plan tailored to address their needs; deliver therapy that is targeted to your child.  Their progress is monitored/assessed, and the therapist adjusts the treatment plan to meet the needs of your child. It is always our goal for your child be able to fully participate in activities at home, at school, on the playground, and in the community.

The therapists will develop customized interventions designed to help your child reach the goals that were identified to help your child be more functional at home, in school, while playing and in community environments.
Throughout the process the therapist will involve you to gather information and provide insight on your child. Face-to-face, home visits and teletherapy appointments are available.

Simply get an initial appointment scheduled. Once the diagnosis is complete, the physical therapist will develop a customized plan to meet your child’s needs. They will work with you and your child to identify goals. And they will involve you in the process with updates.  Treatment plans will be adjusted, as needed. Face-to-face, home visits and teletherapy appointments are available.
